WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Karai is founded by Thomas Cytrynowicz and Emilie Tricot, a duo of nomadic documentary filmmakers and photographers.
Soon after meeting in Brussels, Thomas and Emilie become inseparable. Thomas, the intrepid photographer and film director, nurtured a strong desire to curate unparalleled expeditions, blending his love for photography with his passion for lesser known corners of the world. Emilie, with her background in film production and insatiable curiosity, emerged as the missing link, propelling their shared dream into reality.
Their collaborative efforts began to take shape as they embarked on documentary projects and recce missions across diverse landscapes, from the enigmatic terrains of Northern India and Georgia to the untamed wilderness of Madagascar and West Africa. Amidst their adventures, they laid the groundwork for Karai—an entity meticulously crafted to encompass their multifaceted endeavors.
Drawing upon his wealth of experience in crafting compelling visual narratives and his deep-rooted involvement in humanitarian and development affairs, Thomas enriches Karai with his seasoned expertise.
Meanwhile, Emilie assumes the role of the agile producer, orchestrating meticulous planning and seamless execution for every expedition and film project, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of excellence.
Together, Thomas and Emilie form the dynamic force driving Karai forward, united by their commitment to harness the power of storytelling to inspire others.
OUR MISSION
We tell stories that matter in a nuanced and informative way, focusing on the interdependence between human communities and their environment. We share our knowledge of photography and the places we have been fortunate to explore with like-minded individuals, through our bespoke expeditions. We believe that both documentary storytelling and tourism can be a force for good, if done right.
